I met some representatives from Bob’s Red Mill at the BlogHerFood Conference in Atlanta in May. I really enjoy using their grains so I was excited when one of them contacted me last week to let me know that Bob’s Red Mill launched its first ever “Spar for the Spurtle” Porridge Making Contest! It sounds like a lot of fun so I decided to share it with you. I didn’t want to keep all the fun to myself.
What is Spar for the Spurtle?
Spar for the Spurtle invites home cooks and professional chefs alike to submit videos demonstrating a unique recipe that makes use of Bob’s Red Mill Steel Cut Oats – the World’s Best Oats. From the entries, three finalists will be flown to Portland, Oregon to compete in a live cook-off. The winner will receive an all-expenses-paid trip for two to Scotland, including $2,500 in cash, to compete in the 18th Annual Golden Spurtle World Porridge Making Championship!
It does not have to be a specific porridge recipe – it just needs to make use of Bob’s Red Mill’s Steel Cut Oats. Matt Cox from Bob’s Red Mill won the World Porridge Making Championship in 2009 with his arancini fritters.
